A Versatile AVI Clip Cutter
AVCutty Solution For Tedious Logging and Capturing This freeware is a solution for those who don't fancy tape logging and batch capturing. Video editing professionals log and batch capture their footage for easy workflow during editing. They mark the in and out points of their videos during the capture process. This information is stored in the software and only the logged portions of the videos are later captured. As a beginner you may find marking the in and out points with the camera running a tedious task . Sometimes you may need to rewind or fast-forward the tape to go to the point you erroneously decided to skip. Think also about the wear and tear on your videocam tape head with all the rewinding and fast-forwarding.
DV and Hard Disk Space The solution to this problem is capturing the whole footage and then make your editing decisions later when importing into your video editor, But then you only have this luxury if you have a hard disk with a large capacity. A minute of DV footage takes about 220 MB of space Go figure out for yourself how much footage you can bring into your computer with the space available. T If you don't have much hard disk space to spare, then AV Cutty is your answer. It's a program designed by Andreas von Damaros of Germany and it includes a DV capture feature. All you need is hook your digital video camera to your computer's firewire port. You capture as long as you can. Then before you bring the footage into the computer, you cut out the irrelevant parts and delete them from the computer. You're left with the portions you need and your hard disk space is saved. Scene Detection The process of selecting your desired shots is made simple with AVCutty's scene detection feature. The shots are separated for you and you you can preview them to shortlist the ones you would want to include in your edited video.
Lossless AVI Cutter I stumbled upon this free program (you may donate if you wish) after using some of the so-called top-of-the-line programs that did havoc to my AVI clips after cutting. These programs re-encoded the clips, resulting in a loss of resolution and left jagged edges on the moving parts. AV Cutty however, retained the original resolution of the source clip. A great tool for those who don't fancy batch capturing and those who wish to cut AVI clips without loss of resolution. The DV capture and scene detection facilities alone entitles this software to a permanent place in your computer.
