(TUTORIAL) How Do You Turn on Night Mode in YouTube over Your PC and Android Smartphone to Minimize Glare and Eyestrain?

If you’re a YouTube junkie watching hours after hours of videos, you may have noticed that the white screen around the videos throws a glare at you and put a strain on your eyes.

To minimize this, especially when you’re watching videos at night, you can turn on the night mode or YouTube’s dark theme.

When you turn on YouTube’s night mode, you get the cinema-like feel with all darkness around you, especially if you don’t fancy playing your videos in full screen mode.

You can switch to the night mode or dark theme over your computer or your Android mobile devices.

It may feel strange watching YouTube videos with darkness surrounding you, but rest assured you’ll get used to it.

Here are the steps to do it.

Log in to Your Google Account

Visit YouTube and ensure that you’re logged in to your account. The night mode or dark theme works only if you’re logged in to your YouTube account.

If you’ve been watching videos without signing in, you got to sign in with your Gmail account.

Select Dark Theme Off

Next scroll down until you see Dark Theme Off. and click on it.

You’ll get a message prompting you to turn on the night mode or dark theme.

Just clock on the button where the arrow points to. The night mode or dark theme is activated.

Disable Dark Theme On

To switch back to normal mode you would have to click on Turn Dark Theme : On from your account settings.

Please note that turning on the night mode or dark theme in your account doesn’t sync with all your other devices. You’ve got to repeat the steps with all your devices.

Turn on YouTube in Night Mode in Your Android Smartphone

First, launch your YouTube App. Make sure you’re log in to your account to turn on YouTube in night mode.

Tap on your profile icon and choose Settings.

Under the Settings menu, choose General.

In the General Menu choose Dark theme.

Your YouTube page will now operate on night mode or dark theme.
