VLC Media Player is well-known for its ability to play all kinds of video files thrown at it.

You can convert video files and also cut a video with this versatile media player.

However, not many know that you can also record your computer screen with VLC Media Player.

You may already have VLC Media Player installed on your computer.

If so, you may use this versatile media payer to record your computer screen activity.

This would be useful if you want to make quick and short recordings of software tutorials.

You may also use it to record a portion of a game or video.

That said, let’s look at the steps on how to record your screen with VLC Media Player.

Step 1 – Open Capture Device

After launching VLC Media Player, go to the Media menu and select Open Capture Device.

Step 2 – Choose Desktop as Device

Under Device Selection, choose Desktop.

Step 3 – Choose Desired Frame Rate

You may set any number. The higher the frame rate, the better your video quality will be.

But then you’ll end up with a larger file.

A recommended setting is 30 if you’re not sure what number to choose.

Step 4 – Select Convert

Under the processing options, select Convert.

Step 5- Choose Your Video Profile

On the Convert interface, choose MP4 as your profile.

Step 6 – Set Your Destination File

Click on the Browse button. Then set your file name and the directory you wish to save your file.

Then hit Save.

Step 7 – Hit the Start Button

After selecting your destination file, click on Start.

Step 8 – Begin Recording Your Screen

You’ll see a red button at the bottom of VLC Media Player.

You’re now ready to record your screen.

To stop recording, just hit the Stop button.

Step 9 – Check Your Screen Recording

Go to your destination file to check your recording.

Play the file to check the recording.
