(Step-By-Step Tutorial) How to Download Your Own YouTube Videos

Download Your Own YouTube Videos

Last updated on January 23rd, 2024 at 02:31 am

By default, there’s no option to download videos on the YouTube platform. That’s understandable as YouTube wants you to watch videos over its platform.

Also, there will be copyright issues if YouTube allows the downloads of videos hosted on its platform.

However, this option doesn’t apply when it comes to the video you’ve uploaded to YouTube.

This quick guide will show you how to download videos from your own YouYube channel.

You can do it any time, with minor restrictions, though.

Why Download Your Own YouTube Videos ?

You want to upload a video to YouTube. You go out and shoot the video. Later you edit it and upload it to YouTube.

When you render the video, a copy will be saved on your hard disk. It is this rendered video with audio and text that will be uploaded to YouTube.

So, why download your own YouTube videos when you already have copies of them?

The answer is obvious. You may not have access to a rendered video file. Maybe you’ve left your file on your hard disk without making a backup. Maybe your computer may have suffered a virus attack and you may not be able to access the file?

Or it could be that you’ve made a backup and forget where you’ve stored it and don’t wish to spend time looking for it.

Now you need the file for editing purposes or to play it back on a device.

What better way than to download it from YouTube?

Here’s how you can do it.

Download Your Own YouTube Videos Through Creator’s Studio

Access your YouTube account dashboard through youtube.com. Log in to the email account of your channel.

Click on your channel icon on the top right-hand corner. Then click on YouTube Studio.

On the right-hand panel, choose Content.

You’ll see the list of your uploaded videos.

Choose the video you want and hover your mouse over the description. You’ll see three dots.

Click on the three dots and you’ll see an option to download the video. Click on Download.

According to YouTube, you can only download your videos in 720p or 360p. Even if you have uploaded a 1080p file, you’ll get to download the video at a maximum resolution of 720p.

If you would like to download your own YouTube videos in 1080p, you would have to use a YouTube downloader program. This may give you the option to download your videos in Full HD.

That’s how you can easily download your own Youtube videos through Youtube Studio.

Please note that you can download the same video through YouTube Studio up to 5 times in 24 hours.

You can’t download videos you’ve uploaded to YouTube if YouTube has removed them or if they’ve registered a copyright or community strike against.

Download Your Own YouTube Videos Through Google Takeout

If you wish to download more than one video from your own youtube channel, then you would have to use the Google Takeout method.

Google Takeout is a Google service that allows you to download content or data that you’ve uploaded to any of the Google services like Google Drive, Gmail, or YouTube.

To access Google Takeout, you would have to sign in with your Google account. So, if you have used a particular email account for your YouTube channel, you would have to use the same account for Google Takeout.

You can download all the content related to the account or choose specific ones. For example, you may choose to download only Google Drive files or your YouTube videos.

Here’s how to download your own YouTube videos through Google Takeout.

Visit Google Takeout.

Log in to your YouTube email account at the top right corner if you’ve not done so.
