This post will explain how to make a video call using WhatsApp on a laptop computer.

Many use the desktop version of WhatsApp for convenience and ease of use.

Of course, you benefit from a larger screen using WhatsApp on a laptop.

It saves you the trouble of monitoring your phone for incoming messages.

This is incredibly convenient when you’re charging on your phone.

With the desktop version, you can send text messages, photos, and videos.

But what if you want to make a video call?

If you’re using the browser version of WhatsApp, you’ll find no option to make a video call.

Does this mean there is no way to make a video call using WhatsApp on a laptop?

No. There are two ways you can do it, as explained below. You may choose the one that suits your preference.

Install WhatsApp Desktop App

There’s a WhatsApp desktop app that you can install very much like any computer program.

Step 1 – Download WhatsApp Desktop

Get this app at the Microsoft Store via the official WhatsApp page.

Download WhatsApp for Windows

Upon downloading it, install it like any other software program. The app works only with Windows 10 or later. With an older Windows version, you can’t make WhatsApp video calls on a computer.

Step 2 – Launch WhatsApp Desktop

After launching the app, you would need to link to your phone.

On the WhatsApp app on your phone, tap the three vertical dots and choose Link a Device before scanning the bar code.

Step 3 – Select Contact and Make a Video Call

Once your desktop app is linked to your phone, you’ll see a list of contacts in the left panel.

You’ll see the video camera icon on the top right when you select a contact.

Click on it, and you’re ready to make a video call.

Alternatively, you can make a voice call by clicking the telephone receiver icon.

Using an Android Emulator

You may also use an Android Emulator to make a video call using WhatsApp on a laptop.

An Android emulator allows you to install Android apps on a Windows or Mac desktop.

There are many Android emulators out there. For the purpose of this tutorial, we shall use the Noxplayer.

Step 1 – Download and Install Nox Player

Download and install Noxplayer from its official website.

Step 2 – Search Google Play Store for WhatsApp

Step 3 – Install WhatsApp

Install WhatsApp by following the onscreen directions.

Unlike WhatsApp desktop, you’ll be prompted to enter your telephone number and verify it through an SMS code.

Step 4 – Make a Call

If everything goes well, you’ll be given the option to make a call.

Click on the receiver icon with the plus sign on the bottom right of the screen.

Step 5 – Choose a Contact and Make a Video Call

Your contacts from your phone will not be imported into the WhatsApp app on Nox Player.

So, you would have to add them manually. You can do this by clicking on New contact and filling in the necessary details.

Once the contact is added, click on it. You’ll now have the option to make a video call by clicking on the video camera icon.
